Nimal was our guide for the majority of our 2 weeke trip around Sri Lanka. He drove us all over including Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella, Udawalawe, Ahangama and Galle. Nimal always went above and beyond to enrich our experience - there’s a side of Sri Lanka we wouldn’t have seen without him - especially the surfing on Ahangama beach which was not part of our original plan! We visited just after the extreme flooding in Sri Lanka and Nimal always put our safety first. Despite the effects of the flooding he still managed to drive us to all our locations on our plan. Nimal spoke to locals and tourist attractions on our behalf to ensure we weren’t overcharged on prices and also helped us to get private tours with just us and a guide often - without him we definitely wouldn’t have had the same experience. He also had lots of stories and showed us lots of interesting things on the way including buffalo curd on the side of the road and king coconuts! We’d highly recommend Nimal and will be doing so to our family and friends!
Ancient Cities Grand Tour

A classic cultural route through Sri Lanka’s ancient heart
Private chauffeur · 4 signature experiences · fully customisable
This journey focuses on the cultural triangle and nearby highlights, giving travellers a clear and meaningful introduction to Sri Lanka’s history, Buddhist traditions, and ancient architecture. Instead of only moving from one monument to another, the itinerary allows time for context, views, and slower moments in between.
It works especially well for first-time visitors who want a strong cultural foundation, comfortable travel days, and a route that combines major heritage landmarks with scenic drives and local experiences.
What makes this trip
- 01 Sigiriya Rock Fortress
One of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks, combining dramatic views, ancient engineering, and a memorable climb.
- 02 Temple of the Tooth
A deeply important Buddhist site in Kandy, best experienced with local context and the right timing.
- 03 Dambulla Cave Temple
A visually rich temple complex with painted cave interiors and a strong sense of spiritual continuity.
- 04 Polonnaruwa Ancient City
A large archaeological site where the layout, ruins, and sculpture give real scale to Sri Lanka’s royal history.
Day-by-day
Each day is arranged to reduce backtracking and keep the route comfortable.
- Day 1
Arrival and transfer inland
After arrival, begin with a comfortable transfer from the airport and travel toward the cultural region. The first day is kept light so you can settle in, rest after your journey, and prepare for the main heritage visits ahead.
- Day 2
Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth
Travel to Kandy and spend time around the city’s cultural highlights, including the Temple of the Tooth. Depending on timing, this day can also include upper lake views, local market streets, or a cultural performance.
- Day 3
Sigiriya and village surroundings
Head toward Sigiriya and explore the area around Sri Lanka’s most famous rock fortress. This day can be paced according to your preference, with the climb, local village activity, or a slower afternoon depending on energy and weather.
- Day 4
Polonnaruwa ancient city
Visit Polonnaruwa, where the ruins are spread across a wider landscape. This day feels different from the temple-heavy sites because it gives a stronger sense of how a royal city functioned, with halls, shrines, courtyards, and stone sculpture across the complex.
- Day 5
Dambulla cave temple and local stops
Visit the Dambulla cave complex, one of the most visually impressive temple sites in the country. Depending on pace, this day can also include local spice gardens, viewpoints, or a gentler afternoon after the cultural sightseeing.
- Day 6
Flexible sightseeing or rest
This day is intentionally kept flexible. It can be used for additional sightseeing, a slower hotel morning, a nearby nature stop, or simply to avoid making the package feel overpacked.
- Day 7
Return and departure
Travel back toward Colombo or the airport for departure. The timing is planned around your flight so the final day remains smooth and practical.
