Nimal was our guide for the majority of our 2 weeke trip around Sri Lanka. He drove us all over including Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella, Udawalawe, Ahangama and Galle. Nimal always went above and beyond to enrich our experience - there’s a side of Sri Lanka we wouldn’t have seen without him - especially the surfing on Ahangama beach which was not part of our original plan! We visited just after the extreme flooding in Sri Lanka and Nimal always put our safety first. Despite the effects of the flooding he still managed to drive us to all our locations on our plan. Nimal spoke to locals and tourist attractions on our behalf to ensure we weren’t overcharged on prices and also helped us to get private tours with just us and a guide often - without him we definitely wouldn’t have had the same experience. He also had lots of stories and showed us lots of interesting things on the way including buffalo curd on the side of the road and king coconuts! We’d highly recommend Nimal and will be doing so to our family and friends!
Hill Country Tea Trails

A quieter journey through Sri Lanka’s most scenic highlands
Private chauffeur · 4 signature experiences · fully customisable
The hill country offers a very different side of Sri Lanka. Instead of ancient cities or coastal heat, this route focuses on mountain roads, tea country, waterfalls, colonial-era towns, and iconic stretches of rail and viewpoint scenery.
The pacing is intentionally softer than some of the busier circuit tours. It works well for travellers who want to enjoy scenery without trying to fit too many major sites into each day.
What makes this trip
- 01 Tea estate viewpoints
Rolling tea country scenery creates one of the island’s most recognisable and photogenic landscapes.
- 02 Scenic train section
A practical train segment can be included on the most scenic portion of the highland route, subject to timing and ticket availability.
- 03 Ella landscapes
Ella adds open viewpoints, relaxed cafes, and short local excursions that make the route feel varied.
- 04 Waterfalls and mountain roads
The drives themselves become part of the experience, with stops that break the journey naturally.
Day-by-day
Designed to feel practical and enjoyable, not overloaded.
- Day 1
Arrival and transfer to Kandy
Begin the journey by travelling inland toward Kandy. This first day is kept practical and easy, with enough time to settle in and rest before heading deeper into the hills.
- Day 2
Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Travel uphill through changing scenery as the climate cools and the landscape opens into tea country. Along the way, there is room for scenic stops, tea-factory visits, or viewpoints depending on your pace.
- Day 3
Tea estates and highland scenery
Spend the day exploring the atmosphere of the highlands more slowly. This can include tea estate surroundings, gardens, short local stops, or simply enjoying a more relaxed hotel and landscape-focused day.
- Day 4
Train section and onward to Ella
Where practical, include a scenic train segment before continuing to Ella. This day is one of the visual highlights of the journey, combining railway scenery, mountain views, and a change in local atmosphere.
- Day 5
Ella at your own pace
Use the day for Ella viewpoints, short walks, Nine Arches Bridge timing, or a slower morning depending on your energy level. This flexibility helps the route feel enjoyable rather than overplanned.
- Day 6
Departure transfer
Travel onward toward the airport or your next destination. The final transfer is planned around your onward schedule and travel preference.
